Reynor Adams: Who You Play in Dixotomia

4 MIN READDEEP MATRIX

You play Reynor "Ron" Adams, a former assault infantryman born on Mars and stranded on the mining colony of Karna. The store page calls him a SpecOps contractor, and his story background gives him eight years in the Assault Infantry and a rank of Guard-Captain. He is short, stocky, very broad and very good at staying alive.

This is a spoiler-free profile. It covers who Reynor is before the story starts and leaves out what happens to him.

Who is Reynor Adams?

The essentials about the man you play:

  • Name. Reynor "Ron" Adams.
  • Background. Born on Mars, in the Schiaparelli colony ghetto.
  • Career. Eight years in the Assault Infantry, trained at the Fedarm Special Academy in Adelaide.
  • Build. Short, stocky and very broad.
  • Skills. Trained in mnemonics, and able to consciously control his heart rate, blood pressure and hormone release.
  • Gear. Implants: an arm medkit and equipment sockets at the elbows, back and neck.

Is he a SpecOps contractor or a Guard-Captain?

Both descriptions appear, and they do not conflict. The store page gives the short version of what he does in the game, and the story background fills in the career behind it.

Source How it describes him
Store page A SpecOps contractor stranded on a threatened distant colony
Story background Guard-Captain in the Federal Guards Corps, after eight years in the Assault Infantry

Read together, they describe a professional soldier with a long military career behind him.

Where does the name Ron come from?

His first name is Reynor. The nickname is an accident. A clerk filling out a requisition muttered "Adams... Ronnie... Ron... done", and Reynor decided it was not worth correcting. The name stuck, and when it comes back to him later he accepts it: Ron it is, then.

It is a small detail that says a lot. This is a man who lets small administrative errors stand, in a Federation where administration decides almost everything. Attecor, the Federation's attestation apparatus, is the system behind that.

What is Reynor's background?

The lore is blunt about it. His father was a climate engineer and his mother a schoolteacher, and Reynor did not inherit his parents' intelligence. He inherited his grandfather's shoulders, and those shoulders routed him into a cadet corps and then into the Fedarm Special Academy in Adelaide.

That is how the system works in his world: a body decides a career. Reynor is a competent professional more than a chosen one.

What can Reynor's body do?

Reynor's training goes beyond shooting. He is schooled in mnemonics, the discipline of memory techniques. He can also consciously control his heart rate, blood pressure and hormone release, which is the kind of discipline that keeps a soldier calm under fire.

His implants include an arm medkit and equipment sockets at the elbows, back and neck, so gear can plug straight into him.

The implants have a history of their own. Edward Price's equipment sockets and emergency medical complex were cut out as part of his life exile, and the lore notes that Reynor carries exactly the implants that were cut out of Price.

What is the order of Reynor's life so far?

Before the story starts, his path runs like this:

  1. Born on Mars, in the Schiaparelli colony ghetto.
  2. Routed into a cadet corps by his grandfather's shoulders.
  3. Trained at the Fedarm Special Academy in Adelaide.
  4. Eight years in the Assault Infantry.
  5. Five years in cryo on the way to Karna.
  6. Arrival on Karna, where the story begins.

What is Reynor like as a person?

A few traits come through in the lore:

  • Out of time. Five years in cryo mean that everyone else has aged and he has not.
  • Professionally critical. His verdict on Tibet's troopers is that they sometimes act like cadets on a first exercise rather than soldiers.
  • Faithful to one thing. His personal sidearm, the Thanatos-X-6, is described as his one loyalty. It fires a combined liquid cartridge with a depleted-uranium bullet core and a thermite base.
  • Carrying a standing grievance. He wonders why a Federation this centralised, with a single arms monopolist, runs a hundred incompatible calibres.

Who matters to Reynor?

Four people matter to Reynor early on:

What does it mean to play Reynor in VR?

Dixotomia is a VR-only game, so Reynor's hands are your hands. You aim the guns, reload them and take cover with your own body. The left arm that changes in the story is the other half of that picture: technology on one arm, something else on the other.

What is Reynor's arc?

The lore sums it up as a competent professional who ends up with an arm he does not control. Early in the game something in a dead elevator takes his left forearm, and from that moment the arm is not entirely his.

That arm drives the game's central question: will Reynor remain human or embrace the dark side? You answer it through two upgrade trees, technology on one arm and something else on the other, and the choices you make decide which powers and allies stand with you.
